Insurance documentation
If insurance may be involved, tell us when you call.
We document the damaged opening from the first visit. Job photos, an itemized invoice and a reasonably requested invoice format are available on request for your records or insurer. Your insurer or adjuster—not BoardUp—decides coverage, the deductible and the claim.
Contact police or fire services first when the situation requires it. Before cleanup, and only when the area is safe to approach:
- Photograph the complete opening and the surrounding property before cleanup
- Take a close photo of the break, forced area and point of entry
- Include the street or unit number in at least one photo
- If police attend, record the occurrence number while the officer is on site
- Keep damaged locks, strike plates, handles and other forced components unless they create a hazard
- Confirm with your insurer before damaged components are discarded
Sudden damage and maintenance are handled differently.
A break-in, vandalism, storm or impact may be considered under a property policy. A failed glass seal, gradual door sagging or worn hardware is generally a maintenance issue. Coverage varies, so confirm the specific circumstances with your insurer.
